Polluted water can be caused by waste, oil, trash, and chemicals. There are a lot of places that don't have a cleaning cycle for the waste water so it just goes into the rivers and oceans. Those rivers and oceans are Wwhere most of the people who live there use the water as drinking water and to also bathe in. When people drink the water that is polluted they get diseases, most of the people that get the disease are kids from 0 to 10 years old.
Point Pollution and Non-Point Pollution
Point source pollution is when the pollution comes from one direct place such as a factory. Non-Point Pollution comes in a variety of sources: fugitive and mobile. Fugitive non-point pollution includes thing like, dirt roads, Farmland, Land Mines, and Construction sites. Mobile non-point pollution comes from things like cars, planes, trains, and jets.

One of the diseases you can get by drinking polluted water is Dracunculiasis or Guinea Worm disease. It's when you drink polluted water that has parasites in it or the larva of the worm. When you drink the dirty water the worm gets in your body and the worm grows in your lower limbs. The worm can grow up to 1 meter long. When you take it out you have to do it a little bit each day until its fully taken out. Look at our keynote presentation for more information about the disease.
Polluted water can cause diseases for many people. These diseases can create painful parasites that get into your body. Water supplies in the United States are safer than they used to be, but plenty of old and new dangers still lurk beneath the surface and can be caused unaware over time. Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to nature.
Why Pollution is bad
Pollution is bad for the water and anybody who drinks it. People every day all around the world are forced to drink polluted water. Pollution can be caused by simple things like washing out the chemicals in a drive way, so please don't pollute. People need water and NOT dirty water.
People in some parts of the world have to drink only polluted water and even wash them selves in it because they have no laws or ways to clean it. Everybody deserves to have CLEAN water.

Preventing Pollution
There are many things that we can do individually to prevent water pollution. Given below are a few ways to prevent water pollution:
- Toxic products like paints, automobile oil, polishes, and cleaning products should be stored and disposed off properly.
- Refrain from throwing litter into streams, lakes, rivers, or seas. If you do spot litter on beaches or in water systems, after ascertaining that it is safe, collect them and dispose off them in any nearby waste disposal system.
- Try using natural fertilizers and pesticides as far as possible, or if not, do not overuse them or over-water gardens and lawns.
- Also, actively conserve water by turning the tap off when you do not need running water, such as while brushing teeth. Apart from preventing water shortages, it lessens the amount of water that needs to be treated.
